NPR recently ran a story entitled “Trump Embraces One Of Russia's Favorite Propaganda Tactics — Whataboutism” that—even in the eyes of this anti-Trump agitator—reads as is maddeningly simplistic at best and distractingly harmful at worst. The article argues that “this particular brand of changing the subject is called "whataboutism" — a simple rhetorical tactic heavily used by the Soviet Union and, later, Russia. And its use in Russia helps illustrate how it could be such a useful tool now, in America. As Russian political experts told NPR, it's an attractive tactic for populists allowing them to be vague but appear straight-talking at the same time.” Okay, so two playground bullies who grew up to be leaders of world powers are asshats who employ the age-old magician's trick of distracting you with one hand while the other hand handles the magic trick. This does not prove that Trump colluded Russians any more than it proves that Trump colluded with magicians on hijacking the 2016 election. Furthermore, we should point out that this Whataboutism tactic can—and should be— applied to the Democratic party. After failing in historic fashion to defeat the most unpopular presidential candidate in the history of the United States— a man who was caught bragging on a hot mic that he could grab a woman by the pussy and do whatever he wanted with them because he was rich and famous- the Democrats are all too happy not to take an honest look in the mirror and find out why they failed so historically to resonate with the American people- how they were exposed, by those very emails that Trump asked anyone to leak that they actively suppressed the people’s choice – among Democrats anyway- Bernie Sanders and instead ushered through Hillary Clinton who would not know a personal conviction unless it was wrapped in a triangulation of polling data, wrapped around a rock and thrown through a glass ceiling. Instead, we have a massive- and justified resistance to Trump that is being hijacked by that same Democratic party who is pushing—and pushing hard—what Matt Taibbi called in his recent piece in Rolling Stone, The Putin Derangement Syndrome.

Donald Trump escalates his war on the planet with his “Energy Independence” Executive Order. Trump’s order rolls back President Obama’s Clean Power Plan. Let’s call it the Donald Trump Dead Planet Plan. Diana Best, a Greenpeace energy campaigner who is charged with halting the social influence of the oil industry during Trump’s administration, joins me on the podcast to break down the meaning and scale of this administration of Climate change deniers, the significance of Trump not stepping away from the 2015 Paris Agreement, and the diversity of tactics required to fight back. Also, Steve Bannon, the White House chief strategist, has publicly declared that the “Judeo-Christian West is collapsing” and U.S. is in what he calls “the fourth American turning” in which an all-out civilization war is inevitable. In fact, according to Bannon, it has already begun. These views would be easy to dismiss if Steve Bannon was the editor of a widely-discredited news website and the host of a fringe radio show, as was the case less than a year ago. Today, Bannon is Trump’s main “ideas guy.” Abbie Martin—host and producer of the Empire Files—will discuss her recent expose on Steve Bannon. While Bannon calls himself an economic nationalist, it is a brand of nationalism that fear mongers over anyone outside the Judeo-Christian tradition and benefits only white people. So, does that make him a white nationalist? And how can we stop him before he escalates the all-out civilization war that he thinks has already begun? Finally, Rou Reynolds, front man of the dynamic rock band Enter Shakairi, joins me for an interview about the band's current tour, and how it's progressive message is going over here in the US in the Trump era. In discussing the influence of the Zeitgeist movement on his life, art and lyrics, I ask Rou about living with the contractions of waging an anti-capitalist struggle in the modern world.

FBI Director James Comey dropped not one but two bombshells into the public record in his sworn testimony before the House Intelligence Committee on Monday. Specifically, that the FBI has been investigating the Russia attempt to influence the 2016 US Presidential election including a potential collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign. Additionally, Comey said there was no evidence to Trump's claims that Barack Obama wiretapped him and Trump Tower, as the current president alleged in a series of now infamous tweets earlier this month. John Kiriakou, an ex-CIA analyst and whistleblower who exposed the Bush era torture program and served 23 months in federal prison joins me for the interview on the podcast. The author of The Reluctant Spy:  My Secret Life in the CIA’s War on Terror tells me: “I have been wrong on this issue for the past six months or so where I have gone on a myriad of news outlets and said that I'm just not seeing any evidence of Russian hacking, and if there had been Russian hacking, what exactly is it that we're accusing the Russians of doing? Director Comey made that far more clear yesterday that this was a concerted covert action effort by the Russian government to influence the outcome of the election. Now whether or not it was the Russians that got Donald Trump elected, I still have doubts over it, but it was, indeed, interference in the US election. That's interesting, and it causes me to shake my head.” About the guest (www.johnkiriakou.com) John Kiriakou is a former CIA counterterrorism officer and a former senior investigator with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He became a political prisoner after he exposed the CIA’s illegal and immoral waterboarding torture program, becoming the sixth whistleblower indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act. He served 23 months in prison as a result of his attempts to oppose the Bush administration's torture program.

In remarks would be stunning coming from the mouth of anyone with a middle school science education—to say nothing of the current head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Pruitt continued his long history of flouting the facts in an interview with CNBC host Joe Kernen on Thursday saying that carbon dioxide emissions are not a major contributor to global warming. Joe Kernen: "Do you believe that it’s been proven that CO2 is the primary control knob for climate? Do you believe that?" Scott Pruitt: "No, I––No, I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do, and there’s tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact. So, no, I would not agree that it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see." Joe Kernen: "OK. All right––" Scott Pruitt: "But we don’t know that yet, as far as—we need to continue debate and continue the review and the analysis." His statements could put him at odds with the law. Federal courts have ruled the EPA is obligated to regulate carbon dioxide under the Clean Air Act. Here is what the EPA website says about CO2: Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas that is contributing to recent climate change. CO2 is absorbed and emitted naturally as part of the carbon cycle, through plant and animal respiration, volcanic eruptions, and ocean-atmosphere exchange. Human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels and changes in land use, release large amounts of CO2, causing concentrations in the atmosphere to rise. The current CO2 level is higher than it has been in at least 800,000 years. Understanding that many Trump supporters are willing to look the other way as we sail over the Climate cliff as long as Trump delivers jobs we will also discuss Trump’s promise, oft repeated, that pipeline projects will be built with “American Steel.” As with most things that come out of Trump’s face, this lands squarely in the land of #alternativefacts. As first reported by Steve Horn at DeSmog Blog, the steel to construct the Keystone XL pipeline will not be produced in the United States, as Trump has so boisterously promised, but the frim that will benefit is a Canada by a subsidiary of Evraz, a company 31-percent owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is a close ally of Putin and a Trump family friend. Evraz has also actively lobbied against provisions which would mandate that Keystone XL's steel be made in the U.S. Hm, I wonder if anyone else is looking into this Russia thing? A Day Without A Woman introduces “new tactics of activism” for the Resistance. As Linda Sarsour, a co-chairwoman of the event, told the New York Times that the objective was not a full scale general strike. [https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/08/us/a-day-without-a-woman.html ] “The object for us isn’t that we hope to shut the whole economy down. We see this as an opportunity to introduce women to different tactics of activism. Our goal is not to have the same numbers as the march.” By skipping work, wearing red, and in other acts of solidarity, women and their allies were acting in support of a platform that points to systemic problems that can’t be fixed by imply electing better Democrats. [ Read the full international women’s strike US platform] also on the podcast: White House Doubles Down on ObamaGate. Kind of. Is this the start of the left feeling sorry for Sean Spicer? …and in the interview, Casey Quinlan, a Think Progress policy reporter whose writing has also appeared in The Atlantic, The Establishment, The Toast, and Bitch joins me to discuss her recent Think Progress article: These are the people who will suffer under Trumpcare Get in touch via email, at AtrumpShow.com or by calling the listener feedback line at (888) 213-5353

The Trump-Russia Connection Jeff Sessions lies about his meeting with Russians, and Trump’s rage takes him to twitter. Trolling President Obama, Trump claims, with no evidence, that the former President “had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Independent journalist Marcy Wheeler (EmptyWheel.net) joins Dennis for an interview to discuss what the main stream media is missing about the Jeff Sessions/Trump Russia narrative. Also, Trump is scheduled to issue a new Executive order today, a newer version of his travel ban. Will it stick? And in breaking news— The Supreme Court just announced it will not hear a watershed legal case in the fight for Transgender rights.

Mar 3, 2017

Jeff Sessions recused himself from investigating any campaign related issues on Thursday. The question remains: Will he survive this scandal of his own making, or will he join Mike Flynn and become the 2nd crackpot appointed by Trump forced to walk the plank? With that in mind, consider: have Democrats gone too far in advancing the narrative of Russia colluding with Trump to tip the 2016 election in his favor? Is this new McCarthyism healthy or just? And what does it say about us as a country when Jeff Sessions character is being called into question after taking a meeting with an Ambassador—this is what ambassadors do, after all, take meetings— when Sessions has built a career around a repulsive, racist agenda? He did become the highest-ranking law enforcement official in the United States after a career with the following highlights: Sessions is a voter suppressing bigot who has called the voting rights act “Intrusive legislation”; he has opposed civil rights at every turn; opposed LEGAL immigration; OPPOSED equal pay for women; upheld a white supremacist worldview; has called the NAACP and the ACLU “un-American” groups that quote “ force civil rights down the throats of people”; He has opposed a ban on torture; He famously joked that he thought the KKK were all right until he learned that they smoked pot. No one would like to see this cracker—Jeff Sessions— drink his last mint julip before he has to walk the plank into professional oblivion more so than yours truly, but this new McCarthyism being bandied about by the Democrats and their friends at MSNBC is something to observe with deep skepticism. *****

Was Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress a tale told by an idiot—full of sound and fury—signifying nothing? Or rather, is it possible that it did signify quite a bit. This is not a dream, or a Shakespearean metaphor, we are not binge watching a reality TV show. What Trump said, what he meant, and what it means for you, today on a Trump Show.

How Long Before Trump’s Lies Are Accepted as Truth? After White House Bars NYT, CNN & BBC from Press Gaggle, Trump Carpet Bombs Media Speaking at CPAC this weekend, Trump continued to carpet bomb the media, stating “A few days ago, I called the fake news the enemy of the people. And they are. They are the enemy of the people, because they have no sources. They just make them up when there are none." *** After 40 days and 40 Nights, Trump to Address Congress Anticipation is building for Trump’s his first presidential address to a joint session of Congress, which is scheduled for tomorrow night, which also happens to be the 40th night of the Trump Presidency. Democratic lawmakers have already begun giving their tickets away to immigrants as a protest Trump’s crackdown against common human decency and the founding principles our nation. Far from “draining the swamp”, Donald Trump has— like the old Testament God— been raining down hard on us for 40 days and 40 nights, while inviting a few kleptocrats, billionaires, and white nationalists onto his Arc. The Trump address may not be biblical, but it will certainly be must see TV. *** Trump to Skip the White House Correspondents Dinner The annual dinner is an olive branch between the White House and the press community, but olives are Mediterranean, which is too close to middle eastern- or perhaps Iranian in the minds of this administration— and they could not help but smash that Olive branch into a million bits and piss all over it on twitter. *** all those stories, plus: The Oscars Troll Trump. *****

episode rundown 1. Trump on deportations: 'It's a military operation' President Donald Trump, meeting with business leaders at the White House on Thursday, described his administration's moves to deport undocumented immigrants as a "military operation," a label that runs counter to what his administration has previously said. This new view, combined with the assertion that, according to the government, basic constitutional principles do not apply fully at our borders—and that out “borders” are a 100 mile zone at any external boundary. That means 200 million people are in these zones where constitutional principles do not apply. 2. Bannon and Trump: Make America White Again. At CPAC, shit is getting crazy. We’ll Discuss. 3. Why is Rachel Maddow—perhaps the most respected pundit of the liberal main stream media, going all full Red Commie Scare Joe McCarthy with her Russia obsession when even MSNBC “experts” claim there is no there, there?

Chase Iron Eyes on Standing Rock’s Last Stand Wednesday, February 22 2017— Today in North Dakota the last remaining water protectors at Standing Rock face a 2pm deadline to vacate the camp. In a moment, I’ll speak with Standing Rock Sioux member, Chase Iron Eyes is a Native American activist, attorney, politician, and a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe—Chase is a member of the Lakota People's Law Project and a co-founder of the Native American news website Last Real Indians and in 2016 ran unsuccessfully for US Congress. In brief, here is where we are in the epic- almost year long struggle to protect the water by stopping the Dakota access pipeline from drilling under the Missouri river. It has been a peaceful and prayerful protest that has been ongoing since April of 2016 and has captured the imaginations of people all over the world faces and that today faces overwhelming force of local, state and federal agencies—including Morton County police, Bureau of Indian affairs, National Park Service Rangers, and the Department of Homeland Security—armed for war are prepared to enforce the deadline. The tactic of the militarized police state, acting as agents in our country’s longest war—our war against the Native Americans— has been well documented. Water protectors have been shot with rubber bullets, tazed and blasted with water cannons in freezing temperatures. The water cannon tactic reminiscent of the civil rights protests in the 1960s. As reported in the Guardian, FBI representatives have contacted several ‘water protectors’, raising alarm that an indigenous-led movement is being construed as domestic terrorism. Mni Wiconi, or Water is Life—has become the rallying cry for this movement— and on December 4th, 2016— I was at Standing Rock when a victory—albeit temporary—was achieved when President Barack Obama had the Army Corps of engineers deny an easement that Energy Transfer partners needed to finish construction the pipeline. As part of the delay, an Environmental Impact Statement was to be completed. Donald Trump reversed that decision, and halted the Environmental Impact Statement when Donald Trump issued an executive order on January 24—during his first week as president—ordering the go-ahead of the Dakota access pipeline. Although not explicitly written on Trump’s Executive Order, it may has well have been titled: money is life. Yesterday, I spoke with Chase Iron Eyes as he was making final preparations for the coming deadline. Here is our conversation. That was Chase Iron Eyes— Native American activist, attorney, politician, and a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. I want to bring in now Michal Nigro, with whom I also spoke yesterday. Michael is an award award-winning filmmaker, Emmy nominated writer-director and social justice activist. He is a photojournalist and often travel partner of mine—we were at Standing Rock together back in December. Here is my conversation with Michael as he prepared to spend what will likely be the last night at Oceti Sakowin Camp. That is our show for Wednesday, February 22 2017. 013 Sweden Terror Attack, Resistance Recess, and Repeal and Replace—with what? Today on a Trump Show: >Sweden Terror! Who is programming Donald Trump’s teleprompter, the ONION? Beyond the invented Sweden Terror attack, Trump continued his commitment to alternative facts at his fist campaign event for his 2020 re-election campaign. That was not a type-o. He is already running for re-election. > Resistance Recess. Congress is on recess, and Town Hall’s will be overflowing with righteous anger. >”Mar-a-logoville” President Trump's weekend vacations to his private club in Florida have cost taxpayers almost as much in a month ($11.3 million) as President Obama's entire travel spending for a year ($12.1 million). But don’t worry—he is going to make Mexico pay for it. >Repeal and Replace, with Medicare for All. Dr. Margaret Flowers joins me for an interview about the renewed push for true Universal health care: Medicare for all. Margaret Flowers is a Maryland pediatrician and mother of three. In 2007 she stopped practicing medicine to start advocating full-time for a state and federal single payer health care system. In 2011 Margaret joined Kevin Zeese as co-director of ItsOurEconomy.org In October of 2011 she helped lead the Occupation of Washington DC on Freedom Plaza—full disclosure— I was also an organizer with Margaret on this effort. She is now the co-editor of PopularResistance.org, which carries on the Occupation by reporting on and helping organize events across the county.  Margaret has been a lead organizer of a campaign to stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) for the past 5 years. Margaret co-hosts Clearing the FOG Radio, broadcasting on We Act Radio, 1480 AM in Washington, DC.  Her writing is featuring TruthOut, TruthDig, and Alternet and she has appeared on Bill Moyers' Journal, Democracy Now, and Fox Business News as well as many local and international media outlets and documentaries.

Donald Trump’s First Solo Press Conference: How He Won the Day Donald Trump was on the ropes. For the first 4-weeks of his Presidency, Trump—and his administration—have been on the receiving end of a barrage of well-deserved body blows from the media. However, in Donald Trump’s Epic 77-minute rant that was the twitter troll predator in chief’s first solo news conference, Donald came out swinging. Love him or hate him—and to be clear, I hate the guy—Trump won the day yesterday. The body blows continue, pundits are justifiably pounding Trump for his branding leaks real and news fake, and Ret. Vice Adm. Bob Harward, a former U.S. Navy Seal, Trump’s choice to succeed Mike Flynn as National Security advisor, rejected the offer, calling it a shit sandwich, and Trump continues to be called out for his alternative facts and thin skin— but Trump’s base is still feasting on the red meat tossed their way yesterday. Trump reminded them that campaign Trump is the same as President Trump. Trump is right when he brags that he is “good ratings” and his support among his base Is just as strong as it ever was. While Trump’s overall approval rating is at 41%— a full 21 points below the average at the one-month mark, that number is still higher than the 32% of Americans who say they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media. That number is at is as low as it has been since Gallup started polling on the questions in 1972. Pamela Brown joins Dennis on the show today to unpack the Trump press conference. Pamela Brown is producer and co-host of the WBAI/Pacifica Tuesday Morning Show. She is an activist, scholar, writer and filmmaker.

On Tuesday, we learned that the White House has known for weeks that Mike Flynn, former National Security Advisor, had discussed sanctions with Russia on December 29. While White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer characterized the Flynn, resignation stemming from an “eroding level of trust.” However, many will conclude that the trust—had it eroded—should have eroded days into the Trump administration. As the New York Times is reporting: “Just days into his new position as President Trump’s national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn found himself in a meeting that any White House official would dread. Face to face with F.B.I. agents, he was grilled about a phone call he had had with Russia’s ambassador.” The questions we explored on yesterday’s show—What did Trump know and when did he know it?— remain unknown today. While many on the left line up behind the admittedly attractive and seductive narrative that Trump has colluded with our decades old bogey man, David Swanson, who joins me for the interview today, will have you hitting the pause button. David Swanson is an author, activist, journalist, and radio host. He is director of WorldBeyondWar.org and campaign coordinator for RootsAction.org. Swanson's books include War Is A Lie and When the World Outlawed War. He blogs at DavidSwanson.org and WarIsACrime.org. He hosts Talk Nation Radio. He is a 2015, 2016, 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee. Mike Flynn Fired—What Did Trump Know, and When Did He Know It? *** episode notes for February 14, 2017 *** “Our opponents, the media, and the whole world will soon see—as we begin to take further actions—the powers of the President to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.”- White House senior policy advisor Stephan Miller, auditioning for SNL. The sanctimonious, lying, alt-right parade continues. Meanwhile, BAD NEWS ON the Dakota Access pipeline front. The AP is reporting that A U.S. federal judge on Monday denied a request by Native American tribes seeking to halt construction of the final link in the Dakota Access Pipeline, the controversial project that has sparked months of protests by activists aimed at stopping the 1,170-mile line. Also on the show today—as Donald Trump asks for and gets Mike Flynn’s resignation over revelations that Flynn lied about his conversations with the Russian ambassador about Russian sanctions in December, what did Trump know, and when did he know it? ***

The Intercept’s Murtaza Hussain is joins Dennis Trainor Jr to discuss his recent article AS TENSIONS RISE, STEVE BANNON AND ISIS GET CLOSER TO THEIR COMMON GOAL: CIVILIZATIONAL WAR. Hussain outlines Steve Bannon’s history of espousing apocalyptic theories of history and theorizes on the recent travel ban: “The order was based on plainly dubious claims about national security, targeting for scrutiny some of the most heavily vetted visitors to the United States. But the tangible purpose it did serve, before being at least temporarily frozen by the courts, was to divide Americans from millions of people in the Muslim world by sending the latter a message of gratuitous insult and contempt — and emboldening the very extremist movements the order was ostensibly directed against.” When a terror attack does come, how will the Trump administration treat the media, the courts, activists, or anyone who gets in the way of the nationalism that will metastasize beyond the early stage cancer currently attacking our country?

A Trumps Show—Justice in the Trump Era February 10, 2017 Jeff Sessions is your New Attorney General, and the brouhaha leading up to that confirmation gave us what will be Elizabeth Warrens Campaign slogan when she runs for President in 2020: you can print the bumper sticker now that’s to Turtle man Mitch McConnell’s now infamous drawl heard around the world: “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.” Now Trump has his errand boy to green light his so-called law and order agenda Jeff Sessions has called the ACLU—a group leading the way in protecting Muslims, undocumented individuals and others from Trump’s wrath of terror—un-American and Communist because they “try to force civil rights down the throats of people.” This is a man with a long documented history of opposing civil rights. This is a man who has used his privilege and power to suppress the vote. This is the man that Coretta Scott King was writing of in 1986, when she wrote—in a letter entered into the Congressional record, that Elizabeth Warren has no famously revisited. Sessions was appointed by a President who was a clear rebuke to the Black Lives Matter movement. The man who said of Black Protestors at his rallies that he longed for the good old days and that they should be carried out on a stretcher— that is Trumplandia. The 9th Circuit of Appeals refused—in a unanimous 3-0 vote— to reinstate Trump’s travel ban. It will be interesting to see how Trump reacts now. Will he continue to take this up the chain to the Supreme Court? Will he try to twist the arm of Department of Homeland Security to ignore the courts and enforce his EO anyway?  Or will he tweet about Nordstrom? For now, he is tweeting, both about Nordstrom and about his intention to take the court to court. Tom Price was sworn in as Health Secretary. Price notable wants to gut Medicare—a very successful program—rather than expanding it to everyone, which should be the only replace of Obamacare when it gets repealed. Additionally, as reported in the New York Times: “Buying and selling health care stocks as a member of Congress while you’re voting and helping those companies, that’s bad enough,” said Senator Sherrod Brown, Democrat of Ohio. “But what he wants to do to maybe the greatest program in American history, Medicare, is much, much worse.” Finally, Kellyanne Conway made what appears to be another little blunder. Speaking remotely to the chipper crew at Fox and Friends Conway, with the white house logo right behind here, set aside her role as Advisor to the President for a full 30 seconds where show auditioned for what might just well be her next job: host on the home shopping network. *** Tags Nevertheless She Persisted, Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump, A trump Show, podcast

Donald Trump escalated America’s Longest War on Tuesday —its war against the Indigenous people of Turtle Island— by giving the go ahead to the Dakota Access Pipeline. He did so in truly Trump fashion: by gloating that this was not a controversial thing to do; that he has not gotten a single call about it. The number to call Trump—the number to reach the Army Corps of Engineer line about the Dakota access pipeline is 1-888-201-9377. I just called it, and you can too. A recording of my call is at the top of this podcast. I was at Standing Rock on December 4th filming for a documentary project when the news came down that the Army Corps of Engineers was not granting the easement for Energy Transfer Partners to drill under the river. #DAPL was defeated. Temporarily. At Oceti Sakowin Camp, which had swollen with an influx of close to 10 thousand people, there was a jubilation followed very shortly after that by a resignation. On today’s show, I’d like to highlight some of the voices from Standing Rock, culled from the interviews I conducted on December 4, 2016. . They include interviews with Tokata Iron Eyes, the 14 year old daughter of Chase Iron Eyes who many credit with starting the entire movement; Tara Houske of Honor the Earth; Tarak Kauff- a member of Veterans for Peace who had made multiple trips to Standing Rock and was there on Dec 4 with thousands of veterans willing to protect the water protectors from the national guard, state police and Morton county sheriff department, and Remi—of the Navajo Nation— and also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had been at camp for over five months.

Betsy DeVos is Education Secretary: All Child's Left Behind Betsy DeVos is likely to win a highly contested nomination and become the next Secretary of Education, despite a 24-hour marathon hail mary effort by Democrats to stop the nomination. The Senate vote is likely to be evenly split 50-50, with 2 Republican Senators defected—and for those of you out there making phone calls to your Republican Senators to block Devos, keep calling. Last week, two Republican lawmakers, Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, announced plans to vote against DeVos, leaving Senate Republicans one vote short of confirming her— citing as a reason for crossing the isle the “overwhelming number of phone calls they had received from constituents bout this issue. *** Trump: The US is “Not So Innocent. We’ve got a lot of killers.” Donald Trump was bracingly honest with Bill O’Reilly in his Super Bowl Sunday Interview, refusing to shy away from the fact that the Unites States is “not so nice” – in response to O’Reilly’s incredulity over Trump’s admiration of Vladimir Putin. “He’s a killer!” O'Reilly said, to which Trump responded: "We Got a lot of Killers! You think our country is so innocent?” We will dig deeper in those statements and find out what lies behind them. *** Trump’s Media Conspiracy Theory Speaking at US Central Command and Special Operations Command headquarters in Tampa yesterday, Donald Trump accused the media of conspiring to NOT report terrorist attacks. I’m not kidding. Those are the stories we will cover today PLUS listener comments including the comment from my Mom: she joining the majority of you who thought that I was either demanding too much of Lady Gaga or just plain missed the full meaning of her performance Super Bowl Sunday as I discussed it on yesterday's show. Lady Gaga performed at halftime of Super Bowl LI last night in a performance that some hailed as a missed opportunity—while others point out the political fervor thrumming beneath the surface. Compared to Beyonce's 2016 halftime performance (perhaps the most radical of her career) that paid homage to the black panthers, Malcolm X, and spoke directly to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Lady Gaga’s moment on the world’s largest stage was more subtle. Can “subtle” apply to Lady Gaga? Dennis Trainor Jr examines the performance + gives us run down of today’s top stories in Trumplandia, including:

- Trump's immigration ban facing a new legal hurdle.
- Trump may not “make America great again”—but he just might make SNL great again.
- Trump angered to learn that he does not actually know the details of the Executive Orders Steve Bannon is having him sign.

#OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign joins me to take an advance look at one event where the culture wars (Hollywood v. Trump) and the debate about racial justice in the Trump Era are sure to escalate the 89th Academy Awards. For the first time, Best Picture nominations went to three so-called black films: Fences, Hidden Figures, and Moonlight. All of these films tell beautiful stories that are not #SoWhite. When I interviewed April this time last year, a total of zero African American actors were nominated in the individual acting award categories for the 2nd year in a row. At that time, April told me that one of her inspirations for starting the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite was Spike Lee’s 1989 film Do the Right Thing, seeing in the Oscar nominations of 2015 and 2016 as the equivalent of “no brothers and sisters up on the wall in Sal’s Pizzeria.” Today, now that that so many “brothers and sisters” are up on the “wall” of nominees, I ask April if she is taking a victory lap victory lap and declaring mission accomplished. Spoiler alert: no f*cking way. Also, with White Nationalists in the White House, how will celebrities respond to Trump? And: how does the race of the celebrity speaking out weigh in the effectiveness of political speeches at award shows?

Leslie Mac, is the founder of the Ferguson Response Network and co-creator of the Safety Pin Box—a monthly subscription box for white people striving to be allies in the fight for Black Liberation— joins Dennis for a discussion about what white people striving to be allies in the fight for Black Liberation can do. Plus, headlines from Trumplandia. In blitz of Executive orders, Trump has set in motion plans to finish Keystone XL and Dakota Access, he initiated action to defund sanctuary cities and then, in what spurred a 2nd consecutive weekend of massive nationwide Resistance to the Trump Agenda, Trump signed an Executive order that is the first step in Trump’s promised Muslim Ban.

What if there was a resistance movement that makes Trump unable to govern our oppression; unable to deceive the people, to make the people accept his reign of hatred? And, in doing so, create new governing institutions, new economic relationships, and new ways of being human that not do is sanction and/or normalize “overt” white supremacy. Kali Akuno, an initiator and organizer behind the pledge to be Ungovernable joins Dennis Trainor Jr for an in-depth interview. First, a roundup from Trumplandia: Surrounded by white men, Trump signed an executive order that will result in women around the world dying when he reinstated the Reagan era gag rule—also known as the Mexico policy. The gag rule is so called because of the roughly $600 million the US spends on international aid for family planning and reproductive health, now not a single dollar can go to an organization that provides abortions, councils women with accurate medical advice about abortions, refers women to groups provide abortions and don’t receive our assistance. These monies have often benefitted women in conflict zones who will now have unwanted babies or engage in high risk self abortions. People will die. Women will die. Rex Tillerson, the former CEO of Exxon who left his post with a golden parachute (correction: bribe) of $182 Million won the backing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Monday to be secretary of state when it voted 11-10 to send his nomination to the full Senate. Marco Rubio, who threatened to use his swing vote to vote against Tillerson, backed down and cast a vote that will expedite the day when his constituents in Florida are literally underwater. Donald Trump, who is on the record stating that climate change is hoax originating in China—bragged to a room of foreign diplomates the night before his inauguration that Tillerson “Again, he’s led this charmed life. He goes into a country, takes the oil, goes into another country. It’s tough dealing with these politicians, right?” Donald Trump repeated the lie today that millions voted illegally and that, adjusting for this massive voter fraud, he actually won the popular vote. Hours later, White House press secretary Sean Spicer doubled down on the lie telling the White House press corps ““The president does believe that. He has stated that before. I think he’s stated his concerns of voter fraud and people voting illegally during the campaign and continues to maintain that belief based on studies and evidence that people have presented to him.” Spicer would not say what studies or present any evidence to support this lie. He spoke calmly, and with a pleasant demeanor—continuing to dive deeper into our world of alternative facts. The former Executive Director of an Anti-Immigrant hate group, Julie Kirchner, was appointed by Trump to head up US Customs and Border Protection. It has been widely reported that Trump’s cabinet is more white and male than any since Reagan. They have also made news for just how immorally and disgusting rich they are. You may have read headlines suggesting that 17 of Trump’s cabinet picks have a higher net worth than 1/3 of all Americans. Shocking, until you consider that one-third of American households combined -- which includes households with extreme negative net worth -- have essentially no net worth. The government’s top health agency, the Centers for Disease and Prevention, cancelled its upcoming conference on Climate Change- because, well: it’s a Chinese hoax don’t you know? Also, Trump set about reversing a major victory for the Standing Rock Sioux on behalf of all of us in December, signing an executive order today ordering the Secretary of the Army to expedite approval of the Dakota Access Pipeline. He also signed an executive order to revive the Keystone XL Pipeline. Perhaps emboldened by the left’s inability to keep up with the whack-a-mole of terror flying out of the Trump administration, Lawmakers in eight states have proposed laws criminalizing peaceful protest; one such bill in North Dakota would allow motorists to run over and kill protestors so long as the hit and run, I mean accident, was in fact just that: accidental.
